Running is a hugely beneficial form of exercise as it improves your health and well-being. It has also been scientifically proven to make you happier, thanks to the endorphins it releases in your brain…and who doesn’t like being happy? But it can’t all come down to the run itself – sometimes it’s more about the people you’re running it with! So, to celebrate social running and our recent launch of running tribes, we’ve put together a list of our favourite reasons to get out and hit the pavement with friends!
From your first step to your first marathon, there are loads of reasons why running with friends is awesome – and no we don’t mean running with “Friends”…although we’re sure running with Phoebe Buffay would be pretty…inspirational! 😛
So, without further ado, here are just a few reasons why we think running with friends is simply the best:
Accountability– When other people are counting on you, getting out for your run becomes about more than just you, meaning you get out for a run on a more consistent basis. It essentially stops that little voice in your head from telling you to skip today’s run. “Sorry voice in my head, but I have friends to run with!” 😊 🏃
Motivation– Running with your friends is a great way to motivate yourself, as you have the support and encouragement of your friends driving you on. On top of that, your faster running mates can be just the motivation you needed to run like you’ve never run before!
Positivity– Obviously running with friends provides great social benefits. Who doesn’t love running with people who share the same passion for the sport as they do? This can really help create a great community feel about your runs, allowing the atmosphere to be one full of positivity and enjoyment.
Fitness Improvements– The sheer presence of other people psychologically drives you to run faster, as you are more likely to get caught up in a fast pace without even realising it. Plus, best of all, social running is a great way to pick up tips from your friends- something which will only help you get better and better. Wooo GO SOCIAL RUNNING!
….and hey if it’s good enough for celebrities such as Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel…and Heidi Klum, then who are we to argue!
