In celebration of national chocolate week and because we’re such fun-loving souls, we hit the kitchen yet again to bring you another of our deliciously easy recipes.

Using only four ingredients and one piece of equipment, these little brownie squares took just 10 minutes to make and are the perfect homemade snack to whip up when you’re pressed for time.

Ingredients:

  • 5 medjool dates
  • 40g of cocoa powder (or 5 tbsp)
  • 30g of chocolate flavoured protein powder (or 4 tbsp) (I used USN chocolate brownie protein dessert)
  • 30ml of coconut milk (or any milk)

Throw all of the ingredients into a blender or food processor and let it run for about a minute. Once the mixture has clumped together, remove it from the blender and shape it into eight bite sized pieces. Ta da! Sprinkle with a little cocoa powder to make them look pretty and that’s it.

The first thing people usually think of when someone mentions protein powder is the stuff that body builders drink at the gym when they’ve finished working out. Not many people know that the two most popular types of protein powder – whey and casein – are both made from milk and are by-products of cheese production. They contain all nine essential amino acids which makes them complete protein sources.

One way to think of a protein shake is that it’s nutritionally equivalent to a chicken breast – 30 grams of protein and around 150 calories. Supplementing with protein powder is beneficial for anyone who exercises on a regular basis but struggles to consume enough protein, which is essential for muscle repair and recovery.
